The Orlando Sentinel reported on an Orange County DUI. A Titusville man crossing a street in a wheelchair was struck and killed early this morning by a car whose driver was arrested and charged with Orange County DUI manslaughter.
Michael James Leininger, 32, was crossing Cheney Highway (State Road 50) at Key Largo Drive shortly after 2 a.m. when a westbound 2005 Chevrolet two-door driven by Thomas Clavin Pitt, 48, struck Leininger in the crosswalk, according to Titusville Police.
Leininger was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pitt had a green light at the time of the crash. But while at the scene, officers said they smelled alcohol on Pitt, whose speech was slurred and eyes were glassy. Pitt, who had just left a nearby sports bar, failed a sobriety test. The charge of Orange County DUI manslaughter is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
The defendant in this case will need to hire an experienced Orange County DUI Attorney or an Orange
